MUSCAT: Sustainable design has emerged as a defining feature of contemporary interior design, with an increasing emphasis on eco-friendly materials and products. Italian tiles, renowned for their quality and craftsmanship, are leading the charge in promoting sustainability in the industry.

Caterina Carannante, partner of Tricolore, delivered a lecture during the Design Muscat 2024, sponsored by Scientific College of Design and held under the auspices of Eng Saeed bin Hamoud al Maawali, Oman’s Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The event, under the theme ‘Preserving national identity through the creative industries,’ provided a platform for industry leaders and scholars to discuss topics such as the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the creative industries, integrating AI in academic programmes, governmental strategies and support in incorporating technologies, designing Muscat as a smart sustainable city and with case studies from Italy, Egypt, Oman and more.

In an interview with Observer, Caterina said, "In the wake of growing environmental awareness, consumers are seeking not just beauty but also sustainability in their design choices. Italian tiles embody both elegance and eco-consciousness, offering a perfect blend of style and environmental responsibility."

The conversation surrounding sustainable construction and design practices has gained renewed momentum. These platforms have provided a stage for industry leaders to showcase innovative solutions that prioritise environmental responsibility, and Italian tiles have emerged as a frontrunner in the quest for sustainable interior design options. With a strong focus on eco-conscious manufacturing processes and materials, Italian tile manufacturers are not only meeting the demand for sophisticated design but also aligning with the global shift towards sustainability.

Italian tiles have long been synonymous with elegance, durability, and craftsmanship, making them a staple in upscale interior design projects. However, as sustainability takes center stage in the design world, these tiles are undergoing a transformation to meet the growing demand for environmentally-friendly solutions.

Porcelain tiles offer a sustainable alternative to finite natural materials like marble, stone, and wood. Their long-lasting durability, high resistance, and low maintenance requirements make them an eco-friendly choice. Unlike traditional materials, porcelain tiles do not necessitate harsh cleaning chemicals that pose risks to water systems and indoor air quality.

Tricolore, in partnership with leading Italian suppliers like Atlas Concorde, is at the forefront of this sustainability revolution, ensuring that their product range not only meets stringent environmental standards but also offers a diverse array of stylish and sustainable tiling options for customers in Oman.

The integration of sustainable Italian tiles into interior design projects is not merely a matter of aesthetics but a conscious choice toward reducing environmental impact and promoting eco-conscious practices. As the industry evolves to prioritise sustainability, consumers are increasingly seeking products that not only enhance the visual appeal of their spaces but also contribute positively to the planet.

Italian tiles are highly valued for their quality and resistance. Unlike other types of tiles, porcelain tiles are unglazed and full-bodied, making them the most compact and high-density products available.

With a lifespan of up to 20 years, porcelain tiles are a low-maintenance choice that can maintain their aesthetics and structural integrity over time. In a country with weather conditions like Oman, these tiles can be used even for outdoor and building facades, with their capability to be UV resistant, maintaining their appearance even when exposed to direct sunlight, and to promote energy savings, by effectively moderating the changes in temperature of the rooms.

"We believe that sustainable design is not just a trend but a responsibility toward the environment and future generations. By choosing eco-friendly tiling options, customers can make a style statement while also making a positive impact on the planet," emphasised Caterina.

From reducing waste generation to promoting energy efficiency, sustainable Italian tiles offer a myriad of benefits that align with Oman's focus on environmental responsibility and sustainable development. As Tricolore continues to champion sustainable Italian tiles in the market, they are paving the way for a transformative shift toward eco-friendly interior design solutions that prioritise elegance, durability, and environmental responsibility. The combination of style and sustainability in Italian tiles not only elevates interior design aesthetics but also fosters a greener and more sustainable approach to designing living spaces.
