The activities of the Seventh University Theatre Festival of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, which is hosted by the university’s branch in Sur, continues to compete for 14 different awards during the period from April 28 until May 2, 2024, with the aim of creating a competitive forum for students’ theatrical creativity, and developing different students’ talents in various fields of theatre.
Nine teams representing the various branches of the university participating, along with an elite group of theatre stars and critics and the teams will compete for 14 different awards.
The Deanship of Student Affairs at the university began preparing and working for this festival by communicating with the branches, inviting arbitrators and critics, and preparing the general atmosphere for holding the festival.
Dr Huda bint Salim al Shueiliyah, Vice-President of the University for Student Affairs and Electronic Systems, said: “This festival comes as a continuation of the approach of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in adopting, supporting and highlighting the creative energies of young people at the local and external levels. It is an extension of the paths of the Oman Vision 2040 in nurturing young talents and pushing them towards excellence.”
She added that the seventh edition of the Theatrical Festival is exceptional and comes in a renewed form, with the strong participation of the various branches of the university, which are Muscat, Suhar, Salalah, Al Rustaq, Musandam, Ibri, Nizwa, Ibra, Shinas and Al Musannah, hosted by the Sur branch, and this coincides with the celebration of choosing Sur as the capital for Arab Tourism 2024.
Dr Rashid bin Nasser al Matani, Assistant President of the University of Sur and Chairman of the Festival Organising Committee, also welcomed the festival’s guests, including students, supervisors, arbitration and evaluation committees, literary criticism committees, and audiences appreciating the art of theatre. He stressed that this festival adopting the creative energies of young people and seeks to prepare a new generation to provide the Omani theatre with young talents eager to give, and to spread the theatrical spirit on the cultural and artistic map of the Sultanate of Oman.
These theatrical performances and criticism sessions will be accompanied by specialised workshops in acting and directing to develop the skills of the participating students to enable them to optimally employ their theatrical skills.
