MUSCAT, APRIL 17

The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology signed an agreement worth RO 79 million yesterday, Wednesday, April 17, for the completion of the first phase of the Al Batinah Coastal Road project.

The agreement was signed by Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, with Mohammed Abdul Latif, General Manager of the project at Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) Oman. Eng Badr bin Salem al Maamari, Secretary-General of the Tender Board, was also present.

Speaking to the press, Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali highlighted the economic significance of the project. He stated that the primary goal of the project was to “maximize the economic benefits for the Wilayats.” He added that the project would also aim to serve tourism in those areas and would include walkways and other “components” to boost tourism.

Several Ministry officials shared that the upcoming Barka and Suwaiq twin connections are expected to boost economic activity by creating a logistics route connecting roads from Barka, Suwaiq and Khazaen Economic City with national roads.

The Al Batinah Coastal Road Project begins in the Wilayat of Barka and ends at Khatmat Milaha, covering a total length of 224 km.

The agreement will cover the execution of 30 km, including paving 22 km from Barka to Suwaiq Port, and paving 8 km of the road from Sohar Port to Khatmat Milaha.

Additionally, the project will include the construction of four wadi bridges and 67 box culverts. It will also involve dualizing the connection to Barka Market over 4 km and the Suwaiq Wilayat link over 6 km, as well as building the Suwaiq bridge on the Al Batinah highway.

The project is scheduled to begin in two weeks and is expected to be completed in 63 months.
