MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has seen a significant increase in the number of passengers traveling through its airports, according to preliminary statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) . As of the end of February 2024, there were a total of 2,717,835 passengers, marking a 21.8 per cent increase from the previous year's 2,231,451 passengers.


Muscat International Airport played a significant role in this growth, with a total of 2,463,856 passengers passing through by February 2024, representing a 22.9 per cent increase. These passengers traveled on 16,996 flights, a 16.4 per cent rise from the previous year.


The airport saw 15,678 international flights carrying 2,288,119 passengers, as well as 1,318 domestic flights catering to 175,737 passengers. Indian nationals topped the list of passengers, with 75,521 arrivals and 70,951 departures, followed by Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals.


Meanwhile, Salalah Airport also experienced growth, with 232,77 passengers and 1,572 flights, marking a 10.1 per cent increase in passengers and a 6.1 per cent rise in flights. International flights at Salalah Airport totaled 840, carrying 115,060 passengers, while domestic flights amounted to 732, serving 117,017 passengers.


Suhar Airport saw 11,410 passengers on 110 flights, while Duqm Airport had 10,492 passengers on 104 flights. This surge in passenger traffic showcases the increasing popularity of air travel in Oman, reflecting positive trends in the country's aviation sector. — ONA
