AL MUDHAIBI: At the behest of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidy, Minister of Interior, conveyed condolences and sympathy of His Majesty to families of the pupils who died in Samad Al Shan in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate as a result of heavy rains and gushing floods during the current adverse weather condition.
His Majesty prayed to the Almighty Allah to have mercy on the deceased and grant their families solace and patience to bear the loss.
Meanwhile, heavy thunderstorms (30-100 mm) accompanied with strong downdraft winds and hail expected tonight and on Wednesday morning over governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Batinah North, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, Al Batinah South, Al Sharqiyah South and Al Sharqiyah North and the northern parts of Al Wusta Governorate. Chances of isolated rains occasionally thundershowers predicted over Dhofar Governorate as well.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) advises all to take precautions during thunderstorms, avoid crossing wadis and low-lying areas and avoid venturing into sea during the alert period.
ONLINE CLASSES
To ensure the safety of school students, the Ministry of Education said that it has been decided to continue suspension of classes in schools and applying distance learning in all public, private and foreign schools in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday, with the exception of the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta.
The decision is in view of weather alerts issued by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre and with reference to the National Committee for Emergency Management’s follow-up with the authorities concerned. It was reported that heavy rains are likely to persist due to the current trough that continues to impact different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. The ministry said that normal work and classes will resume in schools with effect from Thursday. — ONA
