Samad Al Shan: Ten students aged between 10 and 15 years old died when their vehicle was washed away in a running wadi in the Niyabat of Samad Al Shan in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, on Sunday. The other four were found alive after a wide search operation.

It all began when Yunis al Abdali drove his car heading to Al Hawari School for Basic Education (grade 5 to 9) to collect his son out of fear for his life as heavy rains loomed. He carried 14 people in his car, 12 of whom are colleagues of his son Mutaz.

A relative of one of the dead said the driver ventured into the wadi thinking that the car could pass it safely but it was washed away. The driver and one of the students were pulled out by the strong current to a distance of 600 metres where they were rescued by the police aviation and transported to Ibra Hospital. Two students were washed away in the wadi and were rescued by citizens bringing the total of survivors to 4. The bodies of 9 students were found on Sunday while the tenth body was found on Monday. The driver and a student are still receiving medical care in the hospital.

The names of the dead are: Ahmed, Mohammed, Abdullah, Raed, Bassam, Al Mutaz, Kahlan, Yahya, Yasser and Mohammed.
