MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by Oman Volleyball Association (OVA), is gearing up to host the West Asian U-18 qualifiers from May 8 to 13 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bousher. The event will act as qualifiers for the 15th Asian Men’s U-18 Volleyball Championship which will be hosted in Bahrain at Manama City from July 28 to August 4.


Four teams will vie for direct tickets from West Asian zone to the Asian event including Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Oman.


Oman team will aim to reach the Asian event for the first time in history with its team that is comprised of many potential players who can deliver top technical performance.


Oman U-18 volleyball team will take part in the GCC Youth Games which will begin on Tuesday in UAE and will run until May 2. Volleyball competitions will start on April 20 as the national team will play three matches in the opening day in different timing sessions as they will take on UAE, Kuwait and Qatar on April 20 while they will conclude group matches by a game against Bahrain on April 25.

The coaching staff headed by coach Islam Mohammed and his assistant Tamer Abdul Rasoul will eye on capitalising the maximum technical output from this essential gulf event ahead of the West Asian assignment. The team will play four crucial matches which will be enough for the coaching staff to have a better view on the team and the players’ technical performance and levels.


Recently, the national U-18 volleyball team had a joint camp with the national senior volleyball team in Sohar. The camp had featured from several training sessions and some warm up matches against the senior team.
