MUSCAT: The Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) announced on Tuesday the new dates of the 26th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup from December 21, 2024 to January 3, 2025 in Kuwait instead of the previous dates which were during December 13 to 26, 2024.

It will be the fifth time for Kuwait to host the Gulf Cup after they had hosted the last one in 2017 besides the editions of 1972, 1990 and 2003. Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia hosted the event for four times while the Sultanate of Oman and UAE had hosted the Gulf Cup for three times.

Oman national football team, the runners-up of the last edition in Iraq, will attend in the forthcoming Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait in 2024 for the 24th time.

Oman had attended all the Gulf tournaments in Kuwait and the 23rd edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait in 2017 was the special one as the Red Warriors were crowned champions following their triumph over United Arab Emirates in the final on penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw in the regular time. Oman under new coaching staff headed by the Czech coach Jaroslav Silhavy will eye for the third title in Kuwait after they won two titles in 2009 (in Oman) and 2017 in (Kuwait).

On the other side, a team from AGCFF visited different venues in Kuwait recently to ensure the readiness of the hosts ahead of hosting the event. The inspection team visited all the venues including Ali Sabah Al Salim in Al Nasr club and Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium. It is expected both the venues will be the main venues during the tournament. The inspection team also visited the available training areas and the facilities in all the venues including Mix Zone, Media area and VIP seating. The recommendations by the team were addressed to the organising committee in Kuwait to work on improving the facilities ahead of hosting the event.
