Oman, Sri Lanka sign MoU to boost tourism cooperation

Colombo: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the tourism field with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Tourism and Lands, on Tuesday.


The MoU was signed by Ahmed bin Ali al Rashdi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Harin Fernando, Minister of Tourism and Lands of Sri Lanka.


The MoU comes within the framework of bolstering bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism between the two countries stemming from the two countries’ awareness of the importance of the tourism sector as an effective element in boosting economic growth.


The MoU aims to enhance tourism exchange, activate participation in various tourism activities, coordinate efforts between the competent authorities in the two countries to simplify travel procedures in accordance with the laws and regulations applied by both countries, strengthen cooperation in various fields related to tourism including investments and managing tourist facilities, encourage the private sector to contribute effectively to the tourism development process. It also aims to coordinate marketing and promotional campaigns, encourage the organization of tourist trips between the two countries and exchange tourism experiences and technical knowledge in the fields of training and qualification. — ONA
