Liwa: Two fishermen from the Wilayat of Liwa went missing at sea at 8:00 am on Saturday.

The fishermen went on a fishing trip to catch tuna fish on Saturday morning but did not get back from the trip which usually takes about 12 hours. The incident was reported to the Maritime Security and the Coast Guard Police at midnight.

The newspaper got in touch with Mohammed bin Karam al Balushi, brother of one of the two missing persons who said that his brother Ahmed and his companion Khalfan al Maamari went on a tuna fishing trip and were supposed to be back at 9 pm on Saturday but they didn’t. He added that they lost communication with them although they had a satellite phone.

Search operations are ongoing to locate the missing fishermen by relevant authorities and local fishermen who allocated three boats to pitch in with the search operations, Mohammed said.
