The second edition of 'Getting to Know' event in Nizwa, was held to introduce the tolerant Omani and Islamic values that demonstrate the comprehensiveness of Islam and the breadth of its horizons on Friday in the Al Shahba Hall at the Intercity Hotel in Nizwa.

The event was organised by the Department of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, represented by the Department of Introducing Islam and Cultural Exchange, and in cooperation with local community institutions.

It was held under the auspices of Dr Asaad bin Hamoud al Muqaimi, Head of General Mufti’s Office, Sultanate of Oman.

The event was conducted in English, targeting various communities residing in the Sultanate of Oman as well as tourists and foreign visitors of different non-Muslim nationalities and religions.

It included several programmes, including an awareness lecture delivered by Khalfan bin Said bin Khamis al Mazrouei, a volunteer from the Centre for Introducing Islam, titled 'Omani Values,' where he emphasised that Islam encourages noble ethics, particularly generosity, which has a great impact on individuals and society.

The lecture discussed various aspects of generosity, such as drawing closer to Allah and winning His paradise, purifying the soul from negative feelings like selfishness and possessiveness, spreading love and compassion among community members, and assisting those in need.

Additionally, the event featured cultural competitions and an exhibition introducing Islam.

The aim of the event is to introduce non-Muslims to Omani culture and clarify the message of Islam and its impact on souls, fostering unity, affection, and love among Muslim community members and involving them in the Ramadhan iftar experience.

The administration’s interest in such events aims to highlight Omani and Islamic values to the various communities residing in the Sultanate of Oman, as they are fundamental factors for cultural advancement and key elements of the developmental vision sought through Oman Vision 2040.

Embracing Islamic values and noble morals, as encouraged by Islam, is a fundamental cornerstone in refining human behaviour, organising relationships on righteous foundations, and promoting love, affection, cohesion, and solidarity among community members, including individuals, families, the nation, and its leadership.

These values are a fundamental source of peaceful coexistence among nations. After the event, five women embraced Islam with full conviction, influenced by the kind treatment they received from the generous people of Oman.
