MUSCAT: The upcoming Middle Eastern Alliance for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Congress (MEAPEN 2024) is poised to convene in Muscat, signalling a significant milestone as the first international event of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman.

Building on the success of previous editions in the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, this prestigious congress will gather healthcare professionals, including physicians, clinical nutrition specialists, nurses, and pharmacists, at the Kempinski Hotel on May 3-4.

Dr Wafaa Ayesh, Chair of MEAPEN 2024, expressed her anticipation for the event, emphasising its role in facilitating global collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of parenteral and enteral nutrition.

The congress aims to showcase cutting-edge research and best practices, empowering attendees to enhance clinical nutrition practices.

Over 400 participants are expected to attend, including more than 60 expert speakers across 16 scientific sessions. The congress will also feature 15 participating companies and 30 poster presentations highlighting the latest scientific advancements.

Notably, delegates will receive Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

Dr Eiman al Hinai, Honorary Local Chair of MEAPEN 2024, highlighted the congress's significance in addressing the increasing need for parenteral nutrition in treating various diseases, particularly in the Middle East region.

She emphasised the event's role in fostering collaboration and knowledge development to support healthcare efforts regionally and globally.

Parenteral nutrition, administered when patients cannot receive nutrients orally, plays a crucial role in treating conditions such as major surgeries, chronic illnesses, and comatose states. Meanwhile, enteral nutrition involves delivering nutrients directly into the digestive system through a feeding tube.

The MEAPEN 2024 congress is organised by INDEX Conference and Exhibitions Org. LLC., with support from various healthcare associations and organisations, including Oman's Ministry of Health and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN).
