Muscat: The 8th edition of Oman Theatre Festival will be held from September 22 to October 1 at the Madinat Al Irfan Theatre, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth announced on Tuesday.
Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, said: “The journey of the Omani theatre, from its beginning to the present day, marks an exceptional experience in Arab theatre. The Omani theatre has directly contributed to shaping our culture and identity and enabled many young Omanis to show off and hone their theatrical talents.” The 8th edition of Oman Theatre Festival comes as a continuation of past festivals.
The festival acquires its importance from the fact that the theatre is a gateway to enriching the artistic and cultural scenes. It contributes to enriching theatrical and artistic experiences and achieving the cultural strategy of developing the cultural scene by supporting cultural production and nurturing up-and-coming theatrical artists, Al Busaidy said.
Ibrahim bin Saif Bani Araba, Assistant Director-General of the Directorate-General of Arts, said that the Oman Theatre Festival is one of the most important cultural events the ministry is keen to hold, stemming from its belief in the importance of refining and highlighting young theatrical artists.
He added that among the axes and objectives that the ministry seeks to materialise from this festival are enhancing pride in the Omani theatrical identity and keeping pace with knowledge developments and technical changes in the global theatre. — ONA
