DHANK: Wheat harvest went under way at the Saih Al Salam farms in the Wilayat of Dhank in Al Dhahira Governorate, on Monday.

The Saih Al Salam farms were allotted to investing in food security in wheat cultivation. Eighty acres were cultivated in the first phase with the acreage expected to double in the next season. This season, the production is expected to reach 48 tonnes of wheat.

An improved high-yielding wheat variety is grown in the project and its cultivation took 120 days from November to the end of March. The project utilizes center pivot irrigation.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources endeavours to support and encourage farmers to grow wheat being a strategic commodity in food security. The ministry provides seeds of improved, high-yielding wheat varieties, harvesting machines well as technical support and direct supervision to boost wheat output.
