MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development, issued an ‘Afaneen’ booklet of poetic chants, (Poetry Chants from the Memory of the Omani Curricula).

The booklet aims to achieve several educational objectives, including providing various sources for reading for first-year students and employing them in classroom activities. This also includes documenting the poetic texts included in the educational curricula in Oman throughout the developmental stages that the curricula go through for grades (1-4) to enrich students linguistically and culturally.

The anthem booklet was classified according to school grades, and the presentation included the poetic text as stated in the schoolbook without editing documented by the school grade in which the anthem appeared, along with the date of publication of the book.

The booklet includes 161 pages, with about 140 anthems 140. The first-grade section included 48 hymns, the second-grade section included 36 hymns, the third-grade section included 30 hymns, and the fourth-grade section had 26 hymns.

The chant booklet also provides meanings for some ambiguous vocabulary. The booklet is supported by a barcode of chant clips for some songs, and is also included on the educational technology website in the educational portal.

Poetry is one of the literature forms and a source of wisdom, education, and refinement. Out of this great value of poetry, the presence of poetic text in the school textbook was an inevitable necessity, as the Omani school book included poetic art from the first grade until the 12th grade, and it was most present in the Arabic language textbook due to its connection to the nature of the subject.

Poetry also had some presence in other academic subjects such as Islamic Education, Social studies, and musical skills for grades 1-4. Throughout the process of developing the Omani curricula, the Ministry of Education focused on selecting poetic texts that enhance the linguistic, psychological, and social development of students.

The curricula of the Arabic language, Islamic education, and musical skills witnessed the process of developing wonderful and diverse examples of these purposeful poetic texts.
