Muscat: The campaign to raise money for the treatment of the five-year-old child, Suleiman al Maskari, from Ibra in North al Sharqiyah, who is suffering from a medical condition has been completed, the family members said in a statement.

The Ministry of Social Development's Jood online platform launched a campaign to raise funds for Suleiman suffering from Duchenne disease (DMD).

In a statement, family members expressed their gratitude to 'everyone who donated, to everyone who prayed, to everyone who worked and intended to do something but could not, and to everyone who posted."

According to Dar al Attaa, RO96,397.10 of the targetted RO100,000 were raised as of Tuesday.

It was reported that Suleiman urgently needs an injection of the drug Elevidys to avoid atrophy, muscle weakness, and paralysis.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness due to the alterations of a dystrophin protein that helps keep muscle cells intact. DMD is one of four conditions known as dystrophinopathies. The other three diseases that belong to this group are Becker Muscular dystrophy (BMD, a mild form of DMD); an intermediate clinical presentation between DMD and BMD; and DMD-associated dilated cardiomyopathy (heart disease) with little or no clinical skeletal, or voluntary, muscle disease.

DMD symptom onset is in early childhood, usually between ages 2 and 3.

The disease primarily affects boys, but in rare cases, it can affect girls.

Jood is an electronic platform created to serve volunteer charitable associations and teams in the Sultanate of Oman. The platform allows individuals and institutions to donate electronically through secure payment channels.
