Oman beat Malaysia 2-0 in World Cup qualifier

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman's national team defeated Malaysia 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign in Muscat on Thursday.


Under newly appointed coach, Jaroslav Silhavy, the Sultanate of Oman dominated the proceedings right from the start.


In the second half, Oman scored in the 58th minute when Ali Sulaiman Al-Busaidi crossed to Issam Alsabhi who scored.


In the 88th minute, Muhsen Saleh Al Ghassani put the game beyond Malaysia's reach with a goal.


Malaysia came close to achieving goals in the 60th and 80th minutes.

Malaysia will again meet Oman at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on March 26, which will be the fourth match for both teams in Group D.


Oman’s national team football coach Jaroslav Silhavy of the Czech Republic has been hoping for a winning start.


Silhavy had a major task in hand and hoped that his team would make the most of the home ground conditions and would eye full points against an unbeaten Malaysia.
