The Sultanate of Oman has been recognised as one of the 40 must-visit countries that might not be on your radar but deserve your attention soon.

This insight comes from a survey mentioned in an MSN report, authored by Stefanie Waldek, a freelance space, travel, and design journalist from the US.

With nearly 200 countries in the world, it is understandable that not everyone is familiar with each one. Even if you have heard some names before, you might not know why travellers are drawn to them. This list highlights 40 lesser-known nations, spanning Pacific islands to enclaves in Europe and Africa, all worthy of a spot on your travel bucket list.

From Benin to Vanuatu, the list includes lesser-known countries like Eswatini, Federated States of Micronesia, San Marino, and São Tomé and Príncipe.

The survey mentions Oman, located on the Arabian Peninsula, stands out with its azure seas meeting orange deserts, offering beautiful Islamic architecture and an Old World vibe. The pitch emphasises exploring not just the coastal beauty but also inland towns and villages, creating a diverse and enriching travel experience.

Shabib al Maamari, Managing Director of Visit Oman, shares, “The Sultanate of Oman presents a unique opportunity for year-round exploration, offering travellers a remarkable diversity of landscapes, all conveniently accessible from capital, Muscat.

Visitors can experience the wonders of the underwater world at the Dimaniyat Islands Nature Reserve, just a 40-minute boat trip away. Alternatively, Al Jabal al Akhdhar, the ‘Green Mountain,’ awaits those seeking cooler climes and breathtaking mountain scenery, reachable within a two-hour drive. For a taste of the desert, the golden sands of the Rimal Al Sharqiya lie a manageable three hours by car from Muscat. Oman’s diverse landscape caters to a wide range of interests, making it a compelling destination for travellers from all around the world.”

The comprehensive list of countries worth a visit includes Brunei, Cabo Verde, Comoros, Cook Islands, Dominica, Eswatini, Federated States of Micronesia, Gabon, The Gambia, Georgia, Guinea, Guyana, Kiribati, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Mauritius, Moldova, Nauru, North Macedonia, Palau, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, São Tomé and Príncipe, Solomon Islands, Suriname, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
