MUSCAT: Oman Olympic (U17) football team suffered a 1-0 defeat against Qatar team in a preparatory match at Aspire Academy in Doha on on Monday. The warm-up match is part of the Oman team's external camp in Qatar in preparation for the AFC Asian U17 Cup qualifiers which will be held in mid of October.


Despite the loss, Oman players took the utmost technical outcomes from this game as the coaching staff headed by coach Anwar al Habsi gave chances for many players in the squad to take part in the match and implemented different tactics during the encounter.


Oman national U-17 football team will play another friendly match against Qatar in Doha on Wednesday ahead of the camp conclusion on Thursday. The eight days camp featured various morning and evening training sessions that varied between physical and technical training sessions. Oman team, coached by the national coach Anwar, aims to shape the players properly ahead of the future assignments including the AFC Asian U17 Cup qualifiers in October. The AFC U17 Asian Cup will be held in April 2025, while the qualifiers draw will take place in June and the hosts of the finals will be unveiled in June too. In the qualifiers, the topper of the groups beside the best four second placed teams in all the groups will advance to the finals, beside the host country who confirmed their seat in the finals.


This is the second abroad camp for the team after they had an external camp in UAE, as the team had played two preparatory games against the hosts UAE. The first warm up match ended in a 1-1 draw as Al Yazen al Balushi scored Oman’s goal. In the following warm up match, the hosts UAE defeated Oman 1-0. Ahead of UAE camp, Oman players went under a comprehensive internal camp in Al Buraimi.


Coach Anwar selected 24 players for the eight days external camp. OMAN U-17 SQUAD: Qusai al Mashaikhi, Fahad al Mashaikhi, Ziyad al Mtaani, Osama al Maamari, Ali al Suwaidi, Saad al Maamari, Ali al Awaini, Ibrahim al Shamsi, Mudathar al Batrani, Yazin al Khaldi, Abdullah al Saadi, Muadh al Hinai, Al Yazen al Balushi, Firas al Saadi, Mohammed al Salhi, Al Waleed al Baradi, Mohammed al Salhi, Al Waleed al Baradi, Yazeed al Musheifri, Ahmed al Mayyahi, Said al Abadi, Mazin al Yarubi, Ibrahim al Tamimi, Sulieman al Kharousi, Al Hassan al Qasmi and Qais Ameen.
