Many have revived their irresistible passion of reading in the past week during this year’s edition of Muscat International Book Fair. Although not everybody is an aggressive book reader, most of them are having the common habit of reading books, stories, newspapers or magazines. Even though it is not a habit of heavy or consistent reading, people are still preserving this commendable practice. Not only that, but they encourage children to get used to such habit of reading.

There are many people who are used to the habit of reading newspapers during the first hour at work every morning. What an amazing habit to start their day to warm up their brain and keep themselves updated with whatever is happening worldwide. Although it is a reading for pleasure, it is very useful and insightful of course. Undoubtedly, those few minutes of reading every morning are a real dose of inspiration and insight.

The annual book fair stands as one of the much-awaited cultural events during the year. People of all ages and interests impatiently wait for this gathering, which brings publishing houses and bookshops from different parts of the world under one roof. From housewives, students, teachers, parents to scholars; all are in need of this book fair. Each one of them is looking for certain books and publications of their interests. To many people, the book fair is an opportunity to refill their shelves and library with books.

As the saying goes, a book is a dream that you hold in your hand. Perhaps that is why some people believe that whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light. For that reason, reading enthusiasts get very provoked by the book fair where they long to catch new books to read. They try as much as possible to increase their stock even with more books every year.

Where do we place ourselves?! Are we one of the passionate readers who never sacrifice the daily reading habit?! Are we among the reading enthusiasts who regard reading as a must-to-do daily routine every morning?! Are we really good friends of books or we just read once every blue moon?! There is no shame on not being one of those; in other words not of those having reading as a habit. Everyone has a different way of practicing any sort of reading.

Regardless how much we read every day, week, month or year; what matter is that we keep reading more and more. Even if the amount of reading is just a few pages every time; we should keep it continuous. Over the time, we will love it and get used to that, so it becomes a real habit that we cannot let go. As it has been said, practice makes perfect. Thus, the frequently we read, the more we get attached to the exercise and then develop the interest.

No doubt that not all visitors of the book fair are good readers or reading-enthusiasts, but everybody comes to please a personal interest of reading. All of them are looking for certain reading materials that satisfy their thirst of reading and seeking knowledge. As an annual reading event, the book fair marks an insightful source of knowledge-sharing as it brings people of all interests and ages together. You see people are interestingly digging all over the stalls looking for something that meets their demands and concerns.

For some, visiting the book fair is a kind of entertainment to enjoy their time; however, it is very thrilling to see individuals, parents and groups of school students visiting the fair. It’s an opportunity to show kids and students the real significance of books and reading as a habit. Getting them into the fair is an efficient encouragement to allow them to pick the books and stories they like. Purchasing books is always good; definitely they will be of real value and good use someday.
