Google, in association with the National Survey Authority and the Ministry of Defence, launched a project to launch Virtual Street View in the Sultanate of Oman.

The project is being carried out with the support and supervision of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The service offers innovative experience to users, allowing them to use panoramic images to explore main streets and cities of Oman. The users can now virtually roam Oman’s physical map using a 360-degree angle. The project, which runs until 2025, will be implemented in two phases: The first includes the cities of Muscat, Suhar and Salalah, and the second covers other wilayats. The project will help users organise trips and visits. The users can now explore tourist attractions, important landmarks and entertainment areas prior to physically setting out on their journeys.

This move aligns with Oman Vision 2040, a roadmap seeking to accelerate digital transformation and foster innovation across various sectors, including tourism and trade.

Individuals with mobility limitations or those seeking a unique travel experience can now virtually explore Oman’s cultural tapestry and breathtaking scenery from the comfort of their homes.

These virtual tours can showcase Oman’s diverse offerings to a wider global audience, attracting more visitors and boosting the tourism industry.

Businesses across Oman can leverage the virtual platform to showcase their products and services, fostering e-commerce growth and reaching new customer segments both domestically and internationally.
