Oman U-17 to take Qatar in Doha friendly

The Oman national U-17 football team will play two friendly games against Qatar in Doha on Monday and Wednesday, as part of team’s preparation for the AFC Asian U17 Cup qualifiers which will be held in mid of October.


Oman team, coached by the national experienced coach Anwar al Habsi, will head off to Qatar on Friday for an external camp which will end on March 7. Coach Anwar selected 24 players for the eight days external camp.


The AFC U17 Asian Cup will be held in April 2025, while the qualifiers draw will take place in June and the hosts of the finals will be unveiled in June too. In the qualifiers, the topper of the groups beside the best four second placed teams in all the groups will advance to the finals, beside to the hosts country who confirmed their seat in the finals.


Earlier in February, Oman U-17 football team ended an external camp in UAE, as the team had played two preparatory games against the hosts UAE. The first warm up match had completed in a 1-1 draw as Al Yazen al Balushi scored Oman’s goal. In the following warm up match, the hosts UAE defeated Oman 1-0.


Ahead of UAE camp, Oman players went under a comprehensive internal camp in Al Buraimi where the players completed many technical and tactical training sessions under the watchful eyes of the head coach Anwar al Habsi and his assisting coach.


In domestic warm up matches, Majees won from Oman U17 team 2-0 while the national team played out a 2-2 draw against Al Khabourah. Oman’s last official appearance was in the West Asian Championship which was hosted in Salalah in last December. Oman junior team had existed from the group stage as they had commenced their campaign with a 1-0 win over Lebanon before they suffered to a 1-0 loss against Yemen in the second match while they were held to a 1-1 draw by Iraq in the concluding match. The topper of the group Yemen who crowned as champions of the West Asian progressed from Oman’s group with Iraq who positioned in the second place with four points and goals difference than the hosts Oman who finished as third in group and Lebanon in fourth position.
