MoHERI opens registration for Block Funding Programme

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MoHERI) announced the opening of applications for research proposals for the Block Funding Programme 2024 through the Research Information Management System (RIMS) in the Oman research portal.


The Block Funding Programme consists of three sub-programmes namely Research Grants (RG), Graduate Research Grants (GRG), and Undergraduate Research Grants (URG). For the Research Grants Programme, the applicant should be a PhD holder or its equivalent (senior specialist or higher for medical doctors), and the duration of the project is two years at a maximum with a budget of RO 20,000 per project.


For the Graduate Research Grants Programme, the applicant should be a master’s or bachelor’s degree holder with at least one year of work experience, or a postgraduate student or an Oman Medical Specialty Board resident, and the duration is two years as a maximum with a budget of RO 3,000 per project. As for the Undergraduate Research Grants Programme, the applicants should be undergraduate students who have completed their foundation year and a GPA of no less than 2.30 or its equivalent, with the duration being 1 year with a budget of RO 1,500 per project.


Applying for the Block Funding Programme 2024 has a set of conditions, including the applicant (PI, Co-PI) should be affiliated with the institution by the time of submission and approval (Oct-Dec 2023), the applicant must not have any ongoing or uncompleted funded project from MoHERI, and the applicants in URG must not have graduated or about to graduate.


Moreover, the research proposal must not be an ongoing project or has been completed, the research project should be new and not been started or completed, the institutional focal points and evaluation committee members are not eligible to apply, and there must not be any kind of conflict of interest the research proposal should be related to Sultanate of Oman.


The deadline for the Block Funding Programme 2024 is until May 30, 2024. Interested applicants can apply through (https://rims.trc.gov.om) at the Oman Research Portal. For inquiries, interested applicants can contact (BFP@moheri.gov.om).
