Oman Broadband, a key player in the country’s telecommunications landscape, showcased its achievements in 2023 and ambitious plans for the future in a media briefing on Tuesday.

The company highlighted its innovative approach to infrastructure development, focusing on utilizing existing government-owned, utility, and electricity fiber optic cables. This strategy, which involves leasing these cables to operators and sharing revenue, boasts several advantages.

Firstly, it reduces construction costs by leveraging existing infrastructure rather than building new networks. This cost-effective approach allows for faster expansion as Oman Broadband aims to utilize over 15,000 km of existing fiber optic cables. Additionally, the company had a target to install an additional 3,000 km by the end of 2023, further expanding its reach.

Furthermore, Oman Broadband emphasizes its commitment to supporting local businesses. The company facilitated direct and indirect tenders worth RO 28 million for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in 2023. This initiative not only fosters economic growth but also fuels innovation within the sector.

The presentation also emphasized the company's impressive subscriber growth, reaching 266,000 active subscribers and experiencing a 20% capacity increase in 2023. This growth reflects the increasing demand for high-speed internet access across Oman.

Beyond subscriber growth, Oman Broadband achieved significant progress in expanding its fiber optic network. By the end of 2023, the company had equipped 744,000 housing units with the network, contributing to improved internet connectivity across the country. Their efforts are particularly commendable in Muscat Governorate, where coverage reached 95%, while coverage in other governorates continues to grow at a steady pace.

Finally, the presentation highlighted Oman Broadband's dedication to international standards. The company secured three prestigious certifications in 2023: ISO 14001:2015 (environmental management), ISO 45001:2018 (occupational health and safety), and ISO 9001:2015 (quality management). These certifications demonstrate their commitment to responsible business practices and maintaining the highest standards in their operations.
