

Muscat: The State Council discussed the Wildlife Trade bill referred by the Council of Ministers at its fourth meeting of the first annual sitting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Salim bin Musallam Qutn, Deputy Chairman of the State Council.
Dr Mohammed bin Said al Hajri, Chairman of the Social and Cultural Committee of the State Council, explained that the Sultanate of Oman from the dawn of the blessed renaissance until the present day, has provided great attention to preserving biodiversity, considering it as one of the key objectives.
He added that the Sultanate of Oman is replete with a diversity of wildlife species some of which are classified as endangered species. This bill aims to regulate the trade in wildlife species with a view of preserving them.
