Saham, Al Khabourah promoted to top league

MUSCAT: Al Batinah North teams, Saham and Al Khabourah, returned to Omantel League in style on Saturday. Saham registered their comeback to the top tier league after they claimed the Oman Football Association (OFA) First Division League (Tamkeen League) crown. In the finals they trounced Ahli Sidab 7-0 at Seeb Stadium on Saturday in the concluding round of the league.

On the other side, Al Khabourah secured the runner-up spot to the elite league class after they played out a goalless draw with Al Salam who were competing with Al Khabourah for the second ticket at Al Rustaq Sports Complex. In the last match of the concluding round, Al Ittihad registered a 3-0 win over Muscat at Al Saada Sports Complex.

After the completion of the final round games, Saham topped in the overall standings with 18 points. Al Khabourah came in second by 16 points with superior goal difference to Al Salam who ended in third place with the same credit. Al Ittihad finished in fourth place with 14 points while Muscat in fifth position with nine points and Ahli Sidab in sixth place with two points only.

Saham back to the top flight league after its absence in two seasons. The Al Batinah North club players delivered an impressive show to emerge champions of the First Division League following their top victory against Ahli Sidab by 7-0. Salim al Rushiedi, CEO of Tamkeen Investment Group, gave away the winner's shield to Saham captain after the match in presence of Saham fans, OFA officials and club representatives.

Al Khabourah confirmed their promotion after a long absence from presenting in the top flight league for six years. In 2017, Al Khabourah dropped to the second division league but returned back to the first division before marking their top attendance in Omantel league from the next season.


On the other hand, two teams from Omantel league who were placed 11th and 12th may drop to the first division league. Currently, Al Wahda and Bahla are in the danger zone as the former have seven points while the latter have six points.
