Weather forecasters have been monitoring the belt of high and medium clouds interspersed with rain clouds over Iraq, Kuwait and northern Saudi Arabia, moving east-wards.

Oman Met Office had already alerted of trough of low pressure that is to have an impact on Oman this week.

Speaking to the Observer, the weather forecaster from Oman Met Office said the trough of low pressure that is to begin on Sunday will continue until March 1.

“It is not expected to be as strong as the previous low pressure,” pointed out the weather expert.

The areas which are on focus would be Musandam, coast of the Sea of Oman, and isolated rains over Al Hajar and around the mountain ranges.

“The expected rainfall will be around 15 to 20 mm. The areas include the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah, Al Batinah North and South, and Muscat, but would be more pronounced over Musandam,” said the weather forecaster.

The wave height could go up to two to three metres in the Sea of Oman and along the Musandam coast.

The impact of the trough is not expected to be heavy, according to the weather forecaster, the reason being that when it reaches towards Oman the trough is expected to move towards north, so the impact would be just on the tip of the northern part of Oman.

Clouds advection and formation and scattered rains with occasional thunder showers are expected over the Governorate of Musandam and the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman and which may extend to Al Hajar Mountains.

Low clouds could cause low horizontal visibility as there are chances of low clouds or fog patches during late night to early morning over parts of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Sharqiyah North, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates and coastal areas of the Sea of Oman.

The expected rainfall will be around 15 to 20 mm. The areas include the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah, Al Batinah North and South, and Muscat, but would be more pronounced over Musandamweather forecaster
