Taqa training helps 160 women find path to self-employment

SALALAH: The Rural Women Empowerment Programme in the Wilayat of Taqa, organised by the Office of the Governor of Taqa, concluded on a high note on Thursday after a successful two-week programme. This pioneering initiative aimed to develop the skills of housewives and job seekers, and support the exploitation of livestock and agricultural resources in the wilayat.


The programme witnessed a large turnout, with 160 trainees distributed across three training centres. The activities included specialised workshops on cheese making, jam and pickle making, as well as introductions to the concept of freelance work and ongoing agricultural activities in Taqa. The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, the Development Bank, and the Social Development Department in Taqa presented informative presentations on financial facilities, packaging and canning techniques, and modern marketing methods.


Welcoming the opportunity to participate in the programme, the participants underlined its many benefits in honing their skills and acquiring new knowledge. They also expressed their hope for the organisation of more similar programmes to empower rural women and create new job opportunities.


Noor bint Mohammed al Awaid, one of the organisers at the Governor’s Office, stressed the office's commitment to organising sustainable programmes to empower rural women in the wilayat. She also emphasised the importance of these initiatives in supporting efforts to find work, exploit local resources, and promote local products.


Al Awaid expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the entities supporting the program,e, including the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Taqa, the Social Development Department, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, the Development Bank, and Dhofar Food and Investment Company.


The Rural Women Empowerment Programme in Taqa serves as an example of the efforts made to strengthen the role of women in society and support their contribution to economic development. The programme also emphasises the commitment of the relevant authorities in providing training and support opportunities for rural women, enabling them to achieve financial independence and fulfill their aspirations.
