The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) centres for the Indian students in Oman, which were suspended earlier, have been reinstated with immediate effect, thanks to the continuous requests made by expat families of NEET aspirants in Oman, along with others in other countries.
Parents of the children studying in Indian Schools in Oman had submitted a mass petitions requesting the reinstatement of the cancelled NEET examination centre in Oman to various authorities including the Indian Embassy in Oman recently.
There are 21 Indian schools and nearly 45,000 students spread across the country. There are over 500 NEET aspirants in the country.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), under whose umbrella the crucial NEET has been conducted, has earlier announced that the centres in Oman and other Gulf countries would be cancelled as the registration process for the NEET UG 2024 began and that a total of 554 centres across India have been said to be available for candidates.
The exemption of Gulf countries, including Oman, where 21 Indian schools are operating, from the list this year had created a crisis that had potentially affected the future of students, according to the parents.
A note from the The National Testing Agency (NTA) said, 'In continuation to the public notice dated 9th February 2024, where in NTA has invited online application forms for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET (UG) 2024, it has been decided that the exam will be conducted in the foreign cities as per details mentioned below.' Accordingly, the countries mentioned below will get the NEET centres back to help the children studying in these countries with their tests.
The foreign cities and centres are Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Srilanka, Qatar, Nepal, Malaysia, Nigeria, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.
The circular signed by Dr Sadhana Parashar, Senior Director (Exams) stated that candidates who have already selected centres in India and paid the fee without the option for foreign centres will have the opportunity to correct their centre and country choice during the correction window. This window will open after the registration window closes.
Also, candidates in foreign countries wishing to change their centres to foreign cities can make corrections during this period. However, they will be required to pay the differential amount.
Candidates registering afresh from foreign countries can select their preferred country and city directly from the drop-down menu during the application process. and they should pay the requisite fee and submit their application.
There is an exam centre for JEE in Muscat, under NTA, which is very effective for the local JEE aspirants.
