MUSCAT: Muscat Karate-Do Academy claimed the first place in the Open Karate Championship (Land of Peace), which was organized by the Shotokan Karate Center in Al Amal Sports Club on Friday. As many as nine clubs, academies and centers took part in the event which was under the patronage of Brigadier General Abdul Malik bin Ghassan Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Oman Taekwondo Committee.


The championship competitions were divided according to the weights and age groups specified by the organizing committee. The age groups (9-10-11-12) years old, males and females, began in the morning session. In the evening, the age groups (6-7-8-13-14-15-16) completed the competitions, males and females as well, divided into specific weights.


The open Karate Championship competitions were managed by an elite group of international, continental and national referees, numbering 20 male and female referees of different nationalities.


The championship competitions were in kata and kumite were administered by applying the WKF Rules 2024.


In the overall ranking of the first three places, Muscat Karate-Do Academy won the championship title and the first place cup with 12 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals. The Shotokan Karate Center ended as runner-up and took the second place cup with 11 gold, 16 silver and 33 bronze medals. Shitorio Oman Karate Do Kai came in third place with 9 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals and the Marsal Al-Najah Martial Arts Center came in fourth place with 5 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.
