Salalah - The Salalah Airport reported a huge jump in the volume of air cargo handling last January, at a rate of 310 percent over the volume of shipments for the same period last year, and a rate exceeding 185 percent over the same month in 2022.
The number of shipments handled in January 2024 exceeded the numbers for the same period in 2019 - that is, before the pandemic - which gives a positive indication and a clear indication of the steady growth of air cargo traffic through Salalah Airport.
The data provided and analyzed by the air cargo business development team at Oman Airports also indicated a steady increase in cargo handling volumes since the end of the last quarter of last year.
The growth rate exceeded 48 percent over the last quarter of 2022 and exceeded 13 percent over the total freight handling of the same year.
Zakaria bin Yacoub al Harrasi, Vice President of Salalah Airport, said that the airport achieved high numbers and percentages during the first month of this year as a translation of the combined efforts of various parties with the efforts undertaken by the Commercial Operations Unit at Oman Airports to advance the air cargo sector at Salalah Airport through various initiatives to attract freight agents and dealers.
He added that providing all necessary support and facilities to business owners in the local market in Dhofar Governorate in activities related to air freight will contribute to marketing the air cargo building and promoting Salalah Airport as a unique strategic location.
It is noted that the success of the launch of the sea-air connection flight, which took place in September last year, achieved the desired strategic objectives.
