New downtown in Muscat to have buildings with 35 to 40 floors

Muscat: The company of the late Iraqi designer Zaha Hadid will prepare a detailed plan and designs for the Al Khuwair Downtown project, on an area of ​​38,000 square meters.


Zaha Hadid Architects will provide consultancy services for masterplan, and engineering design for the downtown and waterfront project at Al Khuwair


The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MUHP) also signed an initial cooperation agreement with Al Tawoos Company to develop a mixed-use tower in the Al Khuwair Downtown project.



According to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, "There will be no high-rise towers in the Al Khuwair Downtown area, but rather a group of buildings with several floors a rather a group of buildings with around 35 to 40 floors."


The Ministry has begun the design phase of the Al Khuwair Downtown project, which may take 12 months, and aims to create a waterfront and a distinguished landmark.


MUHP has obtained approval from the Civil Aviation Authority to develop buildings up to 150 meters in height (50 floors) as it is located in the flight path.
