MUSCAT: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) on Tuesday signed several agreements with various energy companies to support the implementation of 11 projects to the tune of RO 5 million.
This collaborative endeavour involves seven leading companies in the sector, including Petroleum Development Oman, Occidental Oman, BP Oman, OQ, Daleel Petroleum Company, CC Energy Development Company and ARA Petroleum.
The agreements encompass the following pivotal projects: Ibri Public Park project, financing medical equipment for Khoula Hospital (Day Clinics) and the Khuta “Steps” Platform project for vocational guidance and career counselling.
During the ceremony, Mohsin bin Hamad al Hadhrami, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals highlighted the significant role of these agreements in enhancing the quality of life and achieving sustainable development goals.
On his turn, Najeeb bin Ali al Rawas, Governor of Al Dhahirah affirmed the groundbreaking nature of the Ibri Public Park project, emphasising its significance as the first of its kind in the governorate. The park aligns with the governorate's vision for future development. Recognising the importance of public parks as vital community spaces, Al Rawas underscored the role of such projects in providing leisure opportunities.
The ceremony also featured PDO signing several agreements to finance social investment programmes in collaboration with various governmental and private entities. These agreements encompassed a diverse range of initiatives, including the establishment of a Fruit Research Centre of Excellence at the Agricultural Research Station in Suhar, Funding the provision of interactive screens and surveillance cameras for 62 government schools and supplying 3D printers for 100 government schools.
The projects also include jointly funding the Innovation and Culture Centre project in Ibri, the financing of lighting for six road intersections in Shaleem and Al Halaniyat Islands and Thamrait, as well as providing equipment for the Centre of Excellence in Developmental Paediatrics at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital and supporting the programmes of the Endowment Foundation to Support Education (Siraj).
Reflecting on these endeavours, Eng Abdulameer bin Abdulhussain al Ajmi, External Affairs and Value Creation Director at PDO, highlighted the programme's commitment to sustainability and continuity in meeting society's basic needs.
