The Imam Jaber bin Zaid Waqf Foundation concluded the symposium on the family and building values under the auspices of Dr Saeed bin Hamad al Rubaie, President of University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), in the presence of a number of scientists, scholars and consultants.

During the past three days, the foundation held eleven discussion sessions on three main topics, in which twelve speakers from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman participated. It also included three accompanying workshops and two public lectures.

Younis bin Khamis al Souli, Acting CEO of the foundation, said: “The symposium comes as a continuation of the foundation’s approach to raising the level of public awareness and consolidating the principle of partnership, as the combined efforts between the foundation and the public sector on one hand and the foundation and the private sector on the other hand."

"Within local and external participation, in which a scientific group from several walks of life specialised in the field of family and youth gathered, the symposium lasted for two days and was accompanied by training workshops on the third day," he added.

Dr Mustafa Abu Saad, a specialist in preparing family counselors in marital relations, education, and mental health, and a co-speaker in the symposium, explained that the symposium falls under the social responsibility undertaken by the Imam Jaber bin Zaid Waqf Foundation as part of the responsibility it bears in protecting the security and stability of society.

“This security and stability usually starts from the individual within the family, meaning that the family is the basic nucleus for preserving society. This great diversity of topics and specialists from multiple countries will enrich the dialogue and develop plans and strategies to protect the family,” he said.

The symposium came out with a number of recommendations, including directing educational curricula and providing them with educational and practical skills appropriate for each educational group and consistent with the values of the Muslim family, starting with the pre- school stage, passing through the academic stages, and ending with the university levels and beyond, which will have a significant impact in preserving the system of ideal values in society and protecting it from any harm.

The recommendation also came for the competent government agencies to cooperate with community institutions to create digital platforms that publish purposeful documentary programmes based on the values of the right religion, taking into account the privacy that characterises the Muslim community, with the necessity of enacting controlling and deterrent rules and laws.

There was an approval to issue a national document bearing the title 'The Family Charter' which includes values, and principles that concern the family, preserves its identity, and prepares it to assume duties and carry out its religious, social, economic, and cultural roles.

It also establishes a disciplined documentation of the rights enjoyed by the family, provided that this charter is an article from which a group emerges of educational cultural programs.
