

MUSCAT: The Buraimi Scientific Innovation Hackathon, a competition initiated in the Governorate of Buraimi on Monday, is set to unfold over two consecutive days at Buraimi University.
The event is organized by the Office of the Governor of Buraimi in collaboration with various official and private entities in the governorate, including the Directorate General of Education, the Directorate General of Housing and Urban Planning, Buraimi University, and Buraimi University College.
Wafa Rashid al Alyani, the Director of Student Affairs at Buraimi University and a member of the judging committee, stated that the Buraimi Scientific Innovation Hackathon aims to foster the economic development of the governorate, promoting comprehensive and decentralized development in alignment with the national innovation system to achieve Oman Vision 2040.
She added that the competition will spotlight crucial developmental ideas for the governorate, seeking innovative solutions that can lead to sustainable projects. The announcement for participation was made on January 17, with citizens and residents invited to submit their projects. A total of 31 diverse projects were submitted, and after thorough evaluation, 12 innovative projects were selected, spanning various fields such as technology, artificial intelligence, environmental projects, healthcare, and economic and industrial sectors.
Al Alyani highlighted the criteria for selecting winning projects, including innovation, sustainability, impact, clarity of the idea, feasibility, and risk assessment. The top three projects will be honoured by the Office of the Governor of Buraimi. The first-place winner will also represent Buraimi Governorate at the Oman Innovation Festival.
The initiative serves as a valuable platform for promoting scientific innovation and contributing to the realization of broader developmental objectives within the governorate, in line with the national vision for innovation and progress.
