Duqm: The Rock Garden located in the center of the Wilayat of Duqm, the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZAD), constitutes one of the tourist attractions that attract tourists and visitors to learn about the hidden components of this garden.

The garden is one of the most important geological sites in the Sultanate of Oman and one of the most prominent natural treasures of Duqm. The garden, which has an area of about 6 square kilometers, includes unique rock formations lined up in the form of sandstone and limestone statues, formed by wind, water, ice, and other natural elements over millions of years.

The rock formations consist of fragile deposits of limestone that formed in the modern era, approximately 40 million years ago, and are covered by a harder layer. The processes of erosion by wind and water have contributed to sculpting these rocks in the form of a group of symmetry and natural sculptures.

Eng. Abdullah Salim Al Hakamani, Director of the Technical Affairs Department at the SEZAD, explained that the SEZAD is working hard to protect this unique natural component, as the site has been fenced with a wire fence and gates have been placed for visitors and tourists to enter as well as public parking lots, in addition to surveillance cameras to ensure the safety of the site from tampering.

He pointed out in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that a study is currently underway to add some facilities to the garden while creating corridors and highlighting the site’s features more clearly.

He added that in the first phase, a study will be conducted to appoint a consultant specialized in lighting and development works in a way that suits the nature of the site.

He said that the project will contribute to adding an aesthetic touch to the site and will attract several visitors, tourists, and enthusiasts who would like to enjoy the natural places of the rock garden.

He concluded that the garden witnessed the organization of several events by the SEZAD, including meetings with officials and visitors to the zone and other events.
