Oman Innovation Festival next week

Preparations for the launch of the activities of the first edition of the Oman Innovation Festival organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation have been completed and it will take place during the period from February 5 to10 under the slogan 'Knowledge - Partnership - Sustainability', at the Muscat Innovation Complex.


Ibrahim bin Ahmed al Balushi, Director of the Oman Innovation Festival, said: “The festival is a scientific demonstration targeting all segments of society and contributes to spreading awareness of the culture of scientific research and innovation and its importance, while enhancing the creativity and innovation skills of students and those interested to contribute to the knowledge economy."


"The festival also provides a common space. It attracts innovators, supporters, investors and owners of innovation-based start-ups from various sectors to build trade and investment relationships through dialogue sessions and specialised training workshops in various fields,” he added,


Al Balushi said that the first edition of the festival witnesses the participation of more than 35 governmental and private institutions with the attendance of more than 400 participants in the Innovation and Knowledge-Based Economy Forum, more than 85 participants in the Energy Hackathon and more than 1,000 beneficiaries of the training courses and interactive workshops.


He said that the festival will host halls dedicated to dialogue sessions and specialised working papers by prominent international speakers from various countries of the world, and contributions from institutions, innovative consulting platforms, and global organisations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), adding that the festival grounds will host the exhibition for innovators, service providers, investors and applications.


The festival targets school, university and college students, parents, governmental and private academic institutions, researchers and innovators, and bodies concerned with science and technology.


There will be more than 50 diverse events directed to various segments of society, which include exciting innovation competitions, scientific cinema (Innovation Journey), entertainment scientific programmes. This is in addition to the energy hackathon and training workshops in various research and innovation fields for innovators and those interested in modern technologies.


Over the course of five days, entertainment theatre activities will be held on the festival grounds that target and suit families and individuals, such as laser and neon show, lighting men’s activities, and competitions for the public. The closed hall will also include virtual reality technology activities, bubble shows, an experiment laboratory, and workshops on making robots, electrical wiring, and making an electric plane.
