MUSCAT: Thursday morning will mark the finale of the annual camel race organised by the Omani Camel Racing Federation at the Al Fulaij Camel Racing Arena in Barka. The closing ceremony will be held under the auspices of Nasr bin Hamoud al Kindi, Secretary-General of the Royal Court Affairs.
The final day is dedicated to four races in the category of ‘Al Thanaya’ (two-year-old camels) and ‘Al Hawl’ (one-year-old camels). The programme includes presentations of welcoming poems, traditional heritage displays, folk arts, and various musical performances.
On Wednesday morning, 15 races were held, including 10 races for the ‘Al Ythaa’ category for 6 km, two races ‘Al Thanaya’ category for 8, and the events concluded with the ‘Al Hawl’ category for 8 km.
In the first race of the day, Fand from the Royal Camels Corps, trained by Hamad al Jadaily, secured the trophy and a car. In the second race, Al Raznah, owned by Sultan al Jahafi, claimed the first position and received a trophy and a car. The third race was won by Humloul, owned by Hamad al Wahibi, earning a trophy and a car.
The fourth race saw Al Shahinia, owned by Hamoud al Mahraibi, securing the first position and winning a car. The fifth race was won by AlcMuzn, owned by Nasser al Ghafili. In the sixth race, Al Dhayb, owned by Al Sagheer al Maliki, claimed the first position. The seventh race saw Al Shahinia, owned by Mohammed al Janibi, coming on top. In the eighth race, Sayib, owned by Al Ghafeek al Maliki, claimed the first position. The ninth race was won by Al Danat, owned by Fayil al Awaisi. The 10th race saw Tayar, owned by Saeed al Mughairy, securing the first position.
In the 11th race, Al Lafiya, owned by Mansoor al Wahibi, came first and received a car. In the 12th race, Shahin, owned by Hamoud al Omairi, secured the top spot and won a car. The 13th race was won by Khayal, owned by Badr al Draei.
In the 14th race, Masirah of the Bashair camels, trained by Ahmed al Janibi, won the first position and received a trophy and a car. The 15th race was won by Hawail, owned by Mohammed al Jahafi, securing the first position and winning a car.
