Mohammed, Abdulrahman claim titles in national cycling

MUSCAT: Cycle KOM’s Mohammed al Wahibi and Abdulrahman al Yaqoobi of Salalah Club claimed the titles of the Oman National Cycling Championship 2024 at the weekend.


On Friday, Abdulrahman al Yaqoobi won the Individual Time Trial, the first race of the national championship organised by the Oman Cycling Association (OCA). Abdulrahman topped the 24km race at Wadi Al Abyadh in 32 minutes 59.74 seconds.


Cycle KOM’s Hashim al Farsi came second in 33:06.27 while Faisal al Maamari of Oman Club finished third in 33:16.12. Faisal’s teammate Ahmed al Battashi (33:58.20) and Munther al Hasani of Salalah Club (34:19.49) claimed the fourth and fifth spots respectively.


Second-placed Hashim said it was a great moment for him.


“I’m happy with my performance in the ITT, which we at Cycle KOM always excel. The good experience with the team during the OCA League and other races in the event really helped me,” Hashim told Oman Observer.


The second race of the national championship was a road race for 116km in Qurayat.

OCA League red jersey holder Mohammed al Wahibi edged out Said al Rahbi of Oman Royal Army to claim the road race title in a photo finish. Both the Omani youngsters finished the race in two hours 45 minutes and six seconds.


Oman Club’s Faisal al Maamari took the third spot in 2:45:24.


Salalah Club’s Mazin al Riyami (2:45:38) claimed fourth position while Oman Royal Army’s Husam al Rawahi (2:45:38) finished fifth in the road race.


Munther al Hasani topped the under-23 section with a timing of 2:46:23. His Salalah Club teammate Amjad al Toqi was second in 2:46:49 while Asad al Habsi of Al Ittifaq Club claimed third in 2:48:06.


In the team category, Oman Royal Army were on top with an overall timing of 8:17:21. Salalah Club (8:18:11), Oman Club (8:22:20) and Cycle KOM (8:24:17) and Bahla Club (8:27:33) were in the second to fifth spots.


Izki Club and Al Ittifaq Club finished in sixth and seventh spots.
