Parul Razdan Bradoo, a seasoned Indian artist residing in Muscat, paints her artistic narrative with the vibrant hues of nature. In her pursuit of creativity, she distinguishes herself as a purposeful artist, skillfully transforming discarded items into captivating works of art.

Her approach is not only creative but also deeply resourceful, breathing new life into materials that society often deems as waste, thus aligning her artistic endeavours with a profound commitment to sustainability. Parul’s artistic repertoire spans a diverse range of mediums, showcasing her ingenuity in mixed media collages, textile art from scraps, recycled paper art, and repurposed wood sculptures.

In a region where the scarcity of traditional art materials poses a challenge, she has ingeniously repurposed items such as brushes, bangles, artificial flowers, cardboard, earrings, beads, used puzzles, alphabets, charms, spatulas, and even discarded jewelry pieces and cloth swatches.

Through this thoughtful and resourceful use of materials, Parul not only addresses the scarcity issue but also contributes positively to the environment by reducing waste and reimagining the potential of discarded objects. What sets Parul apart is her dedication to infusing traditional Omani cultural symbols into her works. Elements like the Dallah (coffee pot), Oud, khanjar, and intricate architectural details become integral components of her mixed media creations.

This not only adds a layer of depth and cultural significance to her art but also serves as a bridge between tradition and modern expression. The seamless integration of classical mediums such as acrylics, oils, sketch pens, and coloured pencils further enhances the visual richness and harmonious composition of her pieces.

Originating from the enchanting landscapes of Srinagar, Jammu, and Kashmir, Parul’s artistic journey is a serendipitous fusion, intertwining her artistic expression with a rich tapestry of traditional mediums. The cultural richness of her native region, coupled with the diverse influences of Oman, has profoundly shaped her artistic identity.

This intersection of two distinct cultural landscapes resulted in a unique fusion that reflects the tapestry of cultures, histories, and landscapes that have influenced her journey as an artist. While Parul’s embrace of sustainability initially emerged as a response to the scarcity of traditional materials, it has evolved into a defining feature of her artistic ethos.

Once Parul meticulously translated a lingering image from her subconscious onto canvas. Several months later, during a camping at Qantab, she found herself surrounded by the pitch-dark and cold embrace of the night. At approximately 4:30 am, the very scene she had painted revealed itself before her eyes, bridging the realms of dreams and reality.

She aptly named this ‘Subconscious,’ as the photograph captured the essence of this ethereal moment at around 5:30-6 am. This “engaging in the act of painting is my meditation, bringing profound happiness and serenity into my life,” she adds. Her unintentional shift towards sustainability has not only turned constraints into opportunities for creative innovation but has also sparked a significant dialogue on responsible artistry within her community.
