An Omani citizen from the Wilayat of Mahut, Governorate of Al Wusta, spotted a honey badger, a rare appearance for this species in the area.

A honey badger (also known as ratel) measures 10 to 30cm in length and weighs 5 to 15 kilogrammes. It gets its food (honey) with the help of a bird called ‘honeyguide’. It can live about 7-8 years in the wild and up to 20 years in captivity.

A honey badger, which inhabits meadows and dry lands alike, exists in the Governorate of Dhofar and parts of Al Wusta, as well as countries in Africa and south and west Asia. — ONA
