MUSCAT: ETCO Space, the company behind the successful launch of Oman’s first satellite last November – has announced the launch of a new company to support satellite manufacturing and space launch services in the Sultanate of Oman. The announcement was made at the 1st Middle East Space Conference held in Muscat last week.

According to a press statement issued by ETCO Space on Monday, the new company, “Spazers”, will also build and operate ground stations in Oman and the Middle East.

The company is a result of a joint effort between ETCO Space, Polish satellite manufacturer SatRev and Polish tech company Tuatara—the same group of companies behind the launch of “Aman-1”.

Last November, ETCO Space successfully launched satellite “Aman-1” on board of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket after a failed attempt in January of 2023. According to a company official, data collected from the nanosatellite will be utilized in various sectors including oil and gas, urban planning and environmental monitoring.

The Sultanate of Oman has recently placed a strong emphasis on the space industry as part of a broader plan of enhancing its digital economy. Last year, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology unveiled the national executive space program in efforts of positioning Oman as a regional space hub.

Experts predict that the Middle East is projected to become a global hotspot for space activities over the next years as the space market is expected to grow to a $57 billion worth industry in 2030.
