Heartfelt tribute and salute to all Royal Oman Police (ROP) personnel on celebrating their annual day. January 5 is a day of honour and pride for all police personnel. Everyone is really proud of you all, heroes of the nation and peace-makers! With respect to all military and armed forces in the country, Royal Oman Police are having a special respect indeed.

Just imagine how would you feel without having police on the roads?! It is not an overstated confession that our lives would be abnormal of course! Nobody can deny the fact that whenever there is a police officer, safety and stability are guaranteed. Truthfully, the dignity of police officers has been a wish for every child! To be a policeman has always been a dream for many children when asked, what do you want to be in the future? The common answer is to be a policeman!

Probably, some people are not in good terms with ROP personnel due to some experiences. They might have got in trouble with an officer or received a traffic ticket for overspeeding or unfastened seatbelt. Other than that, they got trapped by a speed control radar and received a couple of frustrating fines when renewing their car’s registration. This is just to name a few cases why some are getting annoyed by police!

However, police officers are just doing their job and minding their must-to-do daily duties. Some of these tasks and responsibilities are undesirable by some people, but rules are made to be obeyed. They are to be implemented and monitored; otherwise there is no use of having authorities.

To tell the truth, police personnel are messengers on a mission; they sacrifice their life and strive hard to maintain security, safety and stability round the clock in every corner of the country. They deserve a word of thanks and appreciation from all, citizens and residents alike. In all aspects of duties such as rescue missions, fire-fighting operations, traffic control, immigration along with other tough responsibilities, police personnel have proven remarkable competency and excellence as heroes.

The Royal Oman Police are honoured indeed as the late Sultan Qaboos has accorded a special attention and designated January 5 as the ROP Annual Day. This day was first announced during a special occasion held on November 4, 1974, when the police force received its flag from the late Sultan.

On this day, the late Sultan addressed the police personnel saying: "In handing you our and your flag today, we have decided to confer a new name on the police force. From now on you will be known as the Royal Oman Police."

In a very inspiring note to highlight the privilege of ROP personnel, the late Sultan said, “Although the policeman's job is difficult, he is proud of it. The work first requires him to be sincere, honest and also to continue the efforts pleasantly, smilingly and good-hearted”.

All these Royal gestures of the late Sultan to Royal Oman Police are a source of pride to all its personnel as well as a real motivation to devote more efforts in their tasks and responsibilities. Being a police officer is not an easy job, but we all trust that ROP are up to it.

The ROP Annual Day is an event for all personnel to express their loyalty, devotion to the Sultan, the country and the people. The words of thanks and tribute are not enough to thank all personnel of the Royal Oman Police for sparing no efforts to help citizens and residents as well as striving to ensure public stability, safety.

Dear ROP personnel may the Almighty Allah bless you all and bestow you strength, health and prosperity. Staying awake on every single night all over the country while others are enjoying a deep sleep is not an easy responsibility to shoulder. You are our heroes who risk their lives everyday to protect our country and make it a safe place.
