Omani short film bags Best Screenplay Award at Tunisia Film Festival

Omani director Dr Humaid bin Saeed al Amri achieved a remarkable feat with his short fiction film ‘Al Darooj’ which clinched the Best Screenplay Award at the fourth edition of the Cinemakna Days of Poetic Films Festival.


The festival, held from December 20 to 23 in Tunisia, showcased an array of artistic talent, making the jury's selection challenging due to the high level of competition among the participating films.

Expressing gratitude, Dr Hamid al Amiri commended the dedication of the Ayyam Cinemana Poetry Film Festival management, the Mekneen Cinema Society, and the discerning jury for their efforts in evaluating the outstanding entries. The recognition of ‘Al-Darooj’ at the festival underscores the film's excellence in storytelling and screenplay.

Earlier, Dr Hamid bin Saeed Al Ameri's acclaimed short narrative film, ‘The Drawers’ marked historic milestones in 2022. It became the first Omani short narrative film to grace the screens of the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center in the United States of America. The film also made its debut at the Arab Film Festival in Korea and garnered attention at the Egyptian Opera House's Hangar Cinema.

‘The Drawers’ continued its global journey by participating in over 40 festivals worldwide, where it not only captivated audiences but also earned numerous international accolades. Dr Hamid bin Saeed al Ameri's work stands as a testament to the burgeoning success of Omani cinema on the international stage, showcasing the country's storytelling prowess and artistic finesse.
