The final episode of 2023 talked about five memorable lessons of 2023, and I was inspired to share five valuable lessons from this past year that witnessed tremendous change namely people, planet, profit, technology and space from my perspective.
People: It all starts with selfcare
We are the most hyper-connected to each other generations that inhabited out planet, both logistically and technologically. This hyper connectivity means that 24 hours, seven days a week awareness of what is happening around us, and around the planet and we are paying the prices from our scarce attention.
This is why you see an increasing quest for a better mental health, through meditation, praying and therapy.
If there was one lesson from 2023 that we should take is that selfcare means contemplating about our purpose in life in a way that leads to faith in our faith in ourselves and others. Unfortunately, so far, our scattered attention has led to be more connected to things and disconnected from our souls.
Planet: we have only one
Circular economy and recycling have unlocked creativity in reducing, reusing, and recycling ideas and projects.
However, investments into circular economy are still modes comparing to the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals. The lesson here is that we need to advocate for circular economy to move up in every socio-economic and political agenda.
Profit: show me the value
Previous generations have succeeded in creating so many tools that have made our lives easier, for business and for our lifestyles.
This gave current and future generations more room to care more about the value of their life and activities than about money.
Streaming is one example where younger generations are interested and drawn to lifestyles; they find inspiring rather than being interested in the vicious cycle making profits without a purpose.
Technology: no tech for evil
We have witnessed the most technologically advanced nations, such as the US, UK and Israel use technology to commit genocide against defenceless people.
While pursuing technology is perceived as cool and profitable future generations will deplore us for dedicating it to ending innocent lives based on supremacist ideologies, rather than building lives.
The lesson here is that if you are in tech; do not use your God given talent to serve evil purposes.
Space: our future home
We did our best, but that might not be enough unless we are successful in taking care of our earth, water, and air.
Thinking of building a life in space is no longer the realm of science fiction. It is a necessity since we have only one planet and disasters induced by human activities are on the rise.
I have faith in humanity’s ability to share lessons it learned, even though we ended 2023 with a genocide.
By contemplating about our purpose in life, taking care of our environment, focusing more value rather than cash, using technology for good and investing in space we might just be able to redeem ourselves.
