ARRIVING at Abu Dhabi International Airport Terminal A aboard Etihad Airways marked the spectacular commencement of our exploration, immersing GCC journalists in the enchanting ‘Can’t Wait to Winter’ campaign.

As purposeful emissaries, our visit was strategically crafted to showcase Abu Dhabi as the quintessential global destination, with a special focus on its irresistible allure for visitors from the Sultanate of Oman. Our mission transcended mere travel; it was a meticulously crafted narrative aimed at revealing the numerous wonders that distinguish Abu Dhabi on the global stage.

Offering the epitome of relaxation, Abu Dhabi beckoned travelers to escape into the lap of luxury, unwinding amid perpetual sunshine in its distinguished four or five-star hotels. Tailored wellness experiences and pristine beaches awaited to cater to every traveler’s discerning preferences.

Our inaugural stop, Qasr Al Watan, the Presidential Palace, transcended being a mere location; it stood as a structural landmark imbued with historical significance. Amidst the vibrant crowd of tourists, we delved into the grandeur of the great hall, experienced the regality of the presidential banquet, and witnessed diplomatic exchanges through gifted treasures and the must see 'The Power of Words,' a golden sculpture featuring interlaced Arabic words.

The exploration extended to the presidential meeting room, library, and the profound contributions of Arab scholars in fields ranging from medicine and astronomy to statecraft and humanities.

As the sunset, the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island unfolded an awe-inspiring spectacle. The drone show and art installations, part of the Manar Abu Dhabi initiative, painted a vivid picture of cultural richness.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the museum not only represented the Arab world's inaugural universal museum but also symbolised the UAE’s ambitious journey and accomplishments.

The night at Louvre Abu Dhabi unfurled a captivating exhibition, tracing the genesis of the three monotheisms and highlighting the profound influence of Islamic art on Cartier’s designs. Mobile phones captured the magnificence of the show, encapsulating a blend of artistry and history.

On the subsequent day, our odyssey led us to SeaWorld on Yas Island, an avant-garde marine life theme park.

From dugongs and sea turtles to majestic hammerhead sharks and vibrant tropical birds, the park showcased a kaleidoscope of aquatic life. We delved into the compelling narrative of ‘One Ocean,’ emphasising our interconnectedness with the vast sea.

As evening descended, the 50-berth marina at Eastern Mangroves beckoned. Nestled in the Mangrove National Park, it presented a tranquil boat ride amid lush mangroves, coupled with an array of water sports. Adjacent to the luxurious Anantara Eastern Mangroves Abu Dhabi Hotel, the marina offered a serene interlude.

Our final day commenced with a guided tour of Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain, just over an hour’s drive from the capital. Restored and transformed into a cultural centre, the fort unveiled exhibitions celebrating Abu Dhabi’s heritage and the intrepid explorer Sir Wilfred Thesiger, an iconic figure known for his deep appreciation of traditional Bedouin and nomadic cultures who crossed crossing the Empty Quarter (Rub al Khali) twice in the 1940s.

Embarking on the Al Ain Safari at the renowned Al Ain Zoo, the region’s largest and most acclaimed wildlife sanctuary with over 4,000 animals, proved to be an awe-inspiring experience. The zoo boasts distinctive offerings such as an up-close giraffe feeding encounter, camel riding, and the charming Elezba petting zoo.

Transparent enclosures throughout the facility showcase a diverse range of indigenous and exotic species, including the majestic Arabian oryx, Barbary sheep, rhinos, hippos, as well as captivating tigers and lions.

Noteworthy for its commitment to conservation, the zoo provides visitors with a captivating walk-through lemur experience, contributing to the safeguarding of rare fauna. Enhancing the allure of the wildlife sanctuary is a train tour through dedicated areas.

Our journey through the Safari was expertly guided by passionate Emirati guides, spanning 217 hectares along the base of Jebel Hafit Mountain. This immersive experience granted us a fascinating glimpse into the habitats of African lions, white rhinos, ostriches, zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, kudus, along with the critically endangered or extinct-in-the-wild scimitar oryx, addax, and more.

The concluding chapter unfolded at the verdant Al Ain Oasis, a serene haven spread across the ‘Green City.’ Shaded pathways guided our contemplative stroll amidst 147,000 date palm trees, showcasing the ancient falaj irrigation system, a Unesco Cultural Site.

Our accommodations at Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Rotana, flagship properties of the Rotana Group, cocooned us in comfort. These havens featured not only plush rooms and award-winning restaurants but also a spa and an ambient beach club, elevating our sojourn.

Culinary delights enriched our experience, from the gourmet pizzas at Antonia on Soul Beach, Mamsha Al Saadiyat, to the fusion indulgence at Bushra at Yas Bay waterfront. An authentic Emirati feast at Al Fanar Restaurant & Café in Al Ain provided a distinctive finale, embodying the essence of our culinary escapade.

In essence, our sojourn across Abu Dhabi (#InAbuDhabi) served as a vivid tapestry, weaving together cultural richness, breathtaking attractions, and diverse gastronomic encounters, etching an indelible imprint on our collective travel chronicle.
