MUSCAT: The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has released its annual report on the labour market in the Sultanate of Oman, which reveals an increase in the employment rate in 2022.
According to the report, the total number of employed people in Oman in 2022 was about 2.5 million, an increase of 16.2% from the previous year. Omanis made up about 32% of the total employed, compared to 68% of expatriates.
The unemployment rate in Oman in 2022 was about 3.3%, an increase of 1.4 percentage points from the previous year. The unemployment rate for men was 1.6%, compared to 4.8% for women.
At the sector level, the private sector accounted for about 19.5% of the total employed in Oman, compared to 16.25% for the government sector and 14.3% for the family sector.
At the level of educational qualifications, the number of employed people with a qualification below a general education diploma was about 30.9%, compared to 24.2% with a general education diploma.
At the governorate level, Muscat Governorate accounted for about 33% of the total employed in Oman, compared to 16.4% for North Al Batinah Governorate.
