MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan, recently showcased the 'I Love Sushi' exhibition at Al Araimi Boulevard in Al Seeb.
Eng Yaqoub bin Khalfan bin Khamis al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries, officially inaugurated the exhibition.
Jota Yamamoto, the Ambassador of Japan to Oman, expressed his hope that sushi and fisheries would continue to foster mutual understanding and collaboration between Japan and Oman. Highlighting the significance of Japanese cuisine, registered as Unesco’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, he emphasised the global allure of sushi for its taste, visual appeal, and health benefits. Yamamoto noted that sushi alone could be a compelling reason for people worldwide to visit Japan, and the cultural experiences surrounding sushi, including the vibrant fish auction at Tokyo's fish market, provide unique entertainment for inbound visitors.
As an ambassador from a maritime nation, Jota praised Oman's rich fishery resources, vibrant fish markets, and the annual catch of 60,000 tonnes of beautiful Omani tuna.
He pledged Japan's commitment to enhancing collaboration to promote local Omani fish on the world market. Jota envisioned that introducing more Japanese flavours to the Omani landscape would contribute to the momentum in tourism and add vibrancy to life in the country.
He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth for co-hosting the event and to Shaikh Asad al Araimi, Member of the Board of Directors of Al Raid Group, for providing the venue for the exhibition.
