MCSY selects five projects in sports projects contest

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth unveiled the five qualified ideas for the Ministry’s competition for sports projects 'Share the Change'. The five shortlisted and finalised ideas are: Track 40.3, the Model Sports School, 'Ruwaad', Wheels, and the Smart Space for Sports Life.


The order of top five places will be announced during the closing ceremony which will take place on December 27 at the Youth Centre in Muscat under the auspices of Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.


The competition aims to encourage all members of society with creative ideas to contribute and find innovating sports projects that will effectively contribute to physical activity, raising the level of its practice and making it a way of life. Furthermore, the competition targeted to create sustainable sports projects that contribute to advancing economic development.


The 10 projects which qualified for the final stage made brief presentations to the jury. Abdulrahman al Jadidi and Mujahid al Yahyai presented the 'Smart Space for Sports Life' project, which is an interactive sports walkway that interacts between its users and the features of the track, and is supported by artificial intelligence technologies. It is ready to host various sporting events, locally and internationally, and includes societal and institutional groups.


Saba al Sinani explained her project titled under the 'Wheels' project, which is about roller skating and it is the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, as it provides a safe and enjoyable environment for people of all ages to enjoy the sport of roller skating.


Reem al Harthy presented a project called 'Muscat Bike' and it is a project that aims to develop lanes and paths for cycling and running with different lengths ranging from 1 km to 10 km.


Hamida al Rahbi and Ohood al Balushi presented the 'Your Path is Here' project which is a walkway equipped with modern technologies (digital screens) to know more about calories burned, distances travelled and encouraging phrases.


The 'Pioneers' Project, is a training centre located within the plan to activate after-school programmes in government schools in Oman. It is specialised in promoting the practice of physical activity among male and female students by involving them in programmes specially prepared to raise the level of their practice.

Adil al Balushi presented the 'Model Sports School' project which focuses on utilising the sports facilities available in the school and the open spaces in schools to create playgrounds and physical activities areas during the evening sessions and the time after classes. According to the project, management of the sports facilities and open spaces in schools will be through small and medium size enterprises which are licensed to work in the sports sector. Moreover, it seeks to build an 'interlock' walkway inside and outside the perimeters of the fence designated for the school to allow various age groups to run and do exercises during the evening sessions.


Fahad al Fahdi, member of jury representing the Ministry of Social Development, said that projects have the clarity on targets and meeting the required factors to register success in any project. “The evaluation was based on containing all the necessary points in the project, the style of presentation, its method for advertising, the foundations and techniques used during it, in addition to the presence of a marketing plan, and quality standards, the breakdown of the financial contribution and the expected challenges and difficulties,” he concluded.
