Many countries in the world depend on the tourism sector to provide thousands of job opportunities for their people in the various available fields in this sector. Tourism in many countries represents the primary source of revenues and annual income, and often remains one of the main sources of income for many countries in the world like Oman.

This sector is considered one of the most important economic activities in countries, as it employs many individuals. During the past years, many tourism universities and colleges succeeded in providing many specialisations in this vital field, which helps to employ fresh graduates and increase new investments in the tourism infrastructure every year.

The Sultanate of Oman is distinguished from many countries in the world, whether in the region or outside in this field, that the Almighty endowed it with many natural factors, which gives a great opportunity for tourists to enjoy these factors, and watch the nature, and everything that is distinctive in tourism work. Oman is one of the countries characterised by an ancient civilisation and history, and it needs more investments to exploit some of its features, but the issue of challenges and difficulties remains a barrier to moving this sector further so that more Omanis can work and practice the various activities available to them.

Oman is characterised by an attractive strategic location as it is considered the first Arab country on which the sun shines every morning, and it has many historical, cultural and tourist components. It is characterized by security, safety and tranquility in addition to its enjoyment of distinctive geographical terrain, whether in winter or summer as a result of the presence of environmental and natural diversity. It requires confronting the challenges and obstacles facing this sector.

Tourism in the country needs to expand to encompass various governorates and wilayats and strengthen its infrastructure, while working to increase the number of public and recreational facilities and setting the prices of tourist services so that every visitor can reach what he wants.

In order for the small entrepreneur to be able to work in this sector, he needs inexpensive financing to be able to manage his small enterprise, at a time when it requires convincing Omani youth to work in tourism projects available in the businesses that suit them, and allocating annual financial rewards to motivate them to continue in these projects, and increasing their annual allowances.

At the official level, it is necessary to strengthen the activities of the concerned authorities in this vital sector, with the strenuous efforts currently being made by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, whether in strengthening the infrastructure of the sector or in providing job opportunities, developing and qualifying national cadres by providing tourism programs for them, and empowering Omanis with knowledge by learning foreign languages, enhancing the capabilities of educational institutions in the tourism field, in addition to their participation in attracting foreign investments, both internally and externally.

It is also important for the Omani individual to understand the importance of this sector in the country’s financial planning, as the success of the tourism sector depends on the extent of Omanis’ acceptance and thinking towards this sector and their acceptance of its continuous development so that more Omanis obtain job opportunities in their wilayats and governorates.
